The 3 Little Pigs

Rewritten by: Alyssa Walker

“Wylie, son, listen close. Today we are going to go meet some friends. I need you to act very nice and cute. Can you do that for me?” Dad asked as I trotted along happily beside him. “Of course, Daddy!” I replied. I asked him who we were going to meet, but he said I’d find out when we got there. Daddy and I always go out on adventures together, but usually it’s just the two of us. I wasn’t so sure I liked the idea of someone joining us.

Yes, Holden is an unreliable narrator.

Here are 5 things that we can learn by reading the first page of the book. In class we talked about 18 different things that you can learn from the first page of a novel, I chose 5 to tell you about.

I believe that students should read the Catcher in the Rye. It is a very well written book that is from the view of a relatable adolescent. Although, students nowadays are feeling that can relate less and less to Holden. The book can help us reflect on adolescents of a different time and show students now that students 30 years ago loved Holden. I think students should read the book because it is well written, relatable, and helps teens reflect.

I choose an alarm clock. I chose this because I feel that it represents new beginnings, new challenges, and a new day. While on the other hand it could represent negative feelings like; frustration, anger, or disappointment. However, I think it represents a new day and happy things. I have to admit that sometimes I am a little pessimistic when my alarm goes off, but most days I wake up happy.

Schools may ban a book because of profanity, sexual references, immoral thoughts/things/actions, or violence. However, I think that schools should not remove a book unless the circumstances are extremely rare, ex. Suicide/murder influenced by that book. Otherwise, I think that books should never be removed, I believe it is Okay for the school to discontinue mandatory teaching of the book. Instead the school could take it out of the curriculum or make it optional.

Harry Vs. Holden

Alyssa Walker

Kids nowadays don’t view Holden the same as they used to in the 60’s when kids adored him. Today, kids prefer characters like Harry Potter. I think this is because Harry is smart, considerate, and selfless.

Becoming an Adult

There are many factors to becoming an adult. Complete independence, maturity, and letting habits or things go all contribute to the passing from adolescence to adulthood.
